  1. Verse of the day  -  version 1.0

  5. I.     Installing
  6.     A.    Make a directory in which to store the files (maybe C:\BIBLE)
  7.     B.    Copy the files VEDIT.EXE, TOUCH.EXE, VERSES.BIB and
  8.         BIBLE.EXE into your directory.
  9.     C.    Create new "program items" for VEDIT and BIBLE in Windows.
  10.         D.      Add these two lines to your WIN.INI file:
  11.  
  12.                     [Bible]
  13.                     Home=C:\BIBLE     (or whatever your path is)
  14.         E.      Only run the TOUCH utility if you receive the program
  15.                 with no VERSES.BIB file
  16.  
  17. II.    Notes on running
  18.     A.    You might want to insert the line "run=[PATH]\BIBLE.EXE"
  19.         where [PATH] is the path to BIBLE.EXE. This will cause the
  20.         verse program to be executed every time Windows is started.
  21.         In addition, you can get a random verse at any time by
  22.         double-clicking the bible icon.
  23.     B.    The program will not run correctly unless everything is
  24.         set up. (You'll get runtime errors)

  26. III.    Bugs
  27.     A.    I haven't found any bugs - yet...
  28.     B.    If you find any, please write to me at the address at the
  29.         bottom.

  31. IV.    The files
  32.     A.    BIBLE.EXE
  33.         1.    This is the program that displays the verse for the
  34.             day.
  35.         2.    You can get a verse at any time by double-clicking the
  36.             bible icon.
  37.         3.    Click the "Amen" button to get the verse to go away.
  38.     B.    TOUCH.EXE
  39.                 1.      This file should only run if you receive no
  40.                         VERSES.BIB file with your package, or if your file
  41.                         is deleted.
  42.     C.    VEDIT.EXE
  43.         1.    This is the verse editor for the Bible package.
  44.         2.    Run it by double-clicking the pencil-on-paper icon.
  45.         3.    Add
  46.             a)    This adds the verse diplayed to the verse
  47.                 database.
  48.             b)    Only click this button AFTER your verse is ready
  49.                 to save.
  50.         4.    Delete
  51.             a)    This deletes the verse whose location appears
  52.                 in the "Location" box. (example: if "John 3:16"
  53.                 shows in the "Location" box, then that verse
  54.                                 will be removed from the verse file.)
  55.             b)    Whatever is in the "Verse" box is irrelevant.
  56.                 Verses are deleted by location only.
  57.             c)    Be careful when you use this option.
  58.         5.    Done - you can figure this one out.
  59.         6.    Find
  60.             a)    This option will give you a window with all the
  61.                 verses that contain whatever is shown in the
  62.                 "Location" box.
  63.             b)    For example, if the "Location" box contains:
  64.                 "John", then the Find window will display all
  65.                 verses found in: John, I John, II John, and
  66.                 III John.
  67.             c)    Single clicking a verse location and "OK" or
  68.                 double-clicking a location in the Find window
  69.                 will bring the verse up in the main window.
  70.             d)    Once a verse is brought into the main window,
  71.                                 it can be edited. However, when you choose
  72.                                 "Add", the verse will be added to the end
  73.                                 of the file. To replace the verse, "Add" it,
  74.                                 then "Delete" the original. Version 2.0 should
  75.                                 have a "Replace" button.
  76.         7.    Edit - Works on the currently active box.
  77.         8.    About - Gives version and author information.
  78.     D.    VERSES.BIB
  79.         1.    This is the verse file for the other programs.
  80.         2.    Version 2.0 should have a compressed version (the current
  81.             file is not compressed at all), and a utility to
  82.             compress your current verse file, so don't worry about
  83.             having to reenter all your verses.

  85. V.    Adding Verses
  86.     A.    Feel free to add as many verses as you want and distribute them
  87.         with the package.
  88.     B.    All verses quoted in the original release are from the New
  89.         International Version of the Holy Bible unless specifically
  90.         noted.
  91.     C.    The original version was released with 40 verses.

  93. VI.    Payment
  94.     A.    I have a very simple payment plan:
  95.         1.    If you so desire, please send me a small gift for this
  96.             package. $5 - $10 - $15 - whatever.
  97.         2.    A gift will register your copy and make you eligible
  98.             to receive new versions of the program at no cost.
  99.         3.    If you don't want to send a gift, at least send me a
  100.             postcard so I'll know how far the package got.
  101.         4.    Source code is available for a gift of $25. Just include
  102.             a card with your return address on it.
